#ASUU Gets 7-Day Ultimatum To Resume Work
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Abia State
chapter has given ASUU a seven-day ultimatum to call off the nearly four
months old strike or face confrontation by the students.
According to NANS, education is their right and not a privilege,
adding that by the lingering strike, the lecturers have denied them
their right. Addressing journalists yesterday in Umuahia, NANS Zone B
also said that the timing of the strike by ASUU was detrimental to the
security and economic situation of the country.
The students also faulted their lecturers for producing half-baked
graduates and blamed it on the lecturers, saying that the dearth of
facilities in the nation’s universities has nothing to do with.
According to the Financial Secretary of NANS Zone B, Miracle Eluwah,
lecturers should be blamed for the poor quality of graduates turned out,
because they encourage sorting and sleeping with female students and
award them unmerited marks.

14Years Old Boy Rapes 9Years Old Girl To Death In Ikorodu

The police in Lagos State have commenced investigation into how a nine-year-old girl died, after sustaining injuries caused by alleged consistent rape. According to police authorities, the deceased was raped over five times, by a 14-year-old student, Onyi Adimabua, in the Ikorodu area of the state.
The father of the deceased, Simeon Jigo, told Punch Metro that Onyi is the son of the proprietor of the school his daughter attended. He said his daughter opened up about the rape when she started having medical problems. The 77-year-old man said his daughter died on October 3, 2013.

The airline Flight VL2104 took off from the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos at noon and was scheduled to land in Abuja at about 1.05pm.

BREAKING NEWS: Ex-Vice President, Mike Akhigbe, Is Dead
Nigeria's former Chief of General Staff, Vice Admiral Mike Akhigbe, is dead. He was 68. Akhigbe, whose position in the Armed Forces Ruling Council (AFRC), headed by Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, made him the military vice-president in the government that return Nigeria to democracy in 1999, died at the weekend in England.
It was gathered that Akhigbe had been battling with cancer for some time before his appointment as the chief of general staff, following the death of the then Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, in 1998.
After his retirement from the Force, Akhigbe went to read law and became an attorney with specialisation in Maritime and Real Estate Law. He was a seasoned businessman with substantial interests in real estate.
Akhigbe attended the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Royal Naval School of Maritime Operations Dryad, Southwick the United Kingdom, Command and Staff College Jaji, National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) Kuru and University of Poitiers, Rouan, France.
May his soul rest in peace. Amen!

A Freedom of Information response issued by Nigeria’s House of Representatives on how it spent N1 billion taxpayers’ funds it received for the conduct of the constitution review is fuelling another round of suspicions of fraud.
The House reacted to an FOI request by a Nigerian youth group demanding a detailed financial statement of the constitution review process.
The FOI request had four demands: requesting to know the actual budget for the constitution review, amount spent so far, and a financial statement of the amount spent so far. The request also included a publication of the voting records of the lawmakers on the constitution review.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has lambasted President Goodluck Jonathan over his handling of the N255 million car purchase scandal involving the minister of aviation, Stella Oduah.

Former President of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), Mustapha Amego, has died after a long battle with colon cancer. The musician and former TV personality, who relocated to the US many years ago, died yesterday October 23rd in Baltimore, Maryland, US.
For those who don't remember him, he was one of the host of popular 90's weekly music-dance show, Sunday Rendezvous. Mustapha was also PMAN president from 1993 to 1996. After his tenure, he relocated to the US where he worked with the Discovery Channel as a content producer and editor.

Armed Robbers Attack Bullion Van, Two Police Officer Injuried, One Robber Shot Dead
Commercial activities at Ijora Badia, in the Apapa area of Lagos State, came to a halt on Wednesday when policemen and robbers engaged in a gun duel.
It was learnt that the robbers, who had arrived Marine Bridge on several power bikes, dislodged a bullion van laden conveying a huge amount of money from its escort vehicle by opening fire at them.

Two Died Of Exhaustion On Onitsha Bridge, Due To Heavy Traffic Jam
ONITSHA—Two persons yesterday died on top of the Niger Bridge, Onitsha in Anambra State following a heavy traffic jam on the bridge.
The victims, a middle-aged man and a little child, allegedly died due to exhaustion arising from the long hours spent in their vehicles while trying to cross the Niger Bridge which passage has for some time now remained a nightmare to both transporters and their passengers.
Vanguard sources, however, said that the deceased whose identities were not immediately known was a minor who was coming back with his mother in a commercial bus from Lagos, while the second victim, was a trader who travelled all the way from the North to Onitsha to sell his goods.
It was learnt that while the small child died instantly on her mother’s lap at the Bridge, the business man died minutes after crossing the bridge to Onitsha from the North. It was alleged that the child had cried for a long time due to heat in the vehicle while waiting to cross the bridge before the mother eventually discovered that her child was no longer breathing.

#Atiku & 215 Others Sign Online Petition At www.change.org To End ASUU Strike
Two hundred and sixteen Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora have signed an online petition asking the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities to end the industrial dispute which has kept public universities shut for four months.
The petition launched on change.org, a go-to site for web protests, is asking President Goodluck Jonathan and the National President of ASUU, Dr. Nassir Faggae, to reach an “amicable consensus.”
In the petition entitled, “Mr. President and the Academic Staff Union of Universities: Please End the ASUU Strike now,” the petitioners said the Presidency should stop playing politics with education of the Nigerian youth.
The petition read in part, “Since the ASUU strike began, it has been over half a semester, a lot in the life of students waiting at home, not knowing when the strike will be over. The future of Nigeria is at stake. Stop playing politics with education.

Rihanna — who isn't known for being overly considerate of others (including her own fans) — pushed the boundaries again. This time, however, authorities pushed back. The pop princess was asked to leave Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque complex on Friday when she attempted to pose for an unauthorized photo shoot at the place of worship.
Posing in a black jumpsuit with a wrap that covered her head, the star still managed to look rather sultry as she stared into the camera, caressed her hips, and even rolled around on the floor a little.
