Obasanjo Replies Edwin Clark, Saying It's You Who Needed To Retire

Former President Olusegun Obsanjo on Saturday replied Ijaw leader, Edwin Clark’s comment on him, saying his utterances showed it was time for him (Clark) to retire from politics.

Obasanjo’s Chief of Staff, Mr. Victor Durodola, who responded to comments credited to Clark in a newspaper (not PUNCH) accusing Obasanjo of sowing seeds of discord in the Peoples Democratic Party, and urging him to retire, said it was Clark who needed to retire.

Among other things, Clark had said the former President caused the current crisis in PDP by instigating Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State and Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State to contest the Presidency in 2015.

Durodola told SUNDAY PUNCH that all of Clark’s allegations were baseless since he failed to provide evidence to substantiate his claims.

Some Civil Society Groups Advice Suntai To Return To The Hospital

Some civil society groups have asked the Governor of Taraba State, Danbaba Suntai, to obey the state House of Assembly, and return to the hospital to fully recuperate from the plane crash he suffered about 10 months ago.

The groups, Campaign for Democracy and the Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders, told SUNDAY PUNCH that they are opposed to Suntai’s insistence on running the state in spite of the state of his health, saying it would amount to his aides governing the state by proxy.

The President of the Campaign for Democracy, Dr. Joe Odumakin, said the situation Taraba was similar to what played out in the country, shortly before former President Umaru Yar’Adua, died after being ill for months.

Odumakin said Governor Suntai should allow his deputy to continue governing the state to avoid anarchy.

Obama Gamble, Seeks Congress Vote Before Taking Military Action Against Syria

For attacking its citizens with chemical weapons on August 21, president Barack Obama wants the US to take military action against Syria and is now seeking congressional authorization to intervene.

The Syrian government carried out chemical weapons attack in Damascus in the early hours of August 21, killing at least 1,400 people as they slept in their homes. Although the government is denying being behind the attack, president Obama says the military action against Syria is necessary to deter future chemical attacks...not only in Syria but other governments thinking of doing same. 

"We cannot and will not turn a blind eye to what happened in Damascus." Obama said

Once the US congress reconvenes on September 9th, president Obama will have his answer. Do you think the US should take any military action against Syria? Atiku, Amaechi And 6 Other Governors Form New Party, Split PDP

Nigeria's former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and five other governors walked out of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Convention that held in Abuja today and went to form a faction of the party.

The governors who left the convention with Atiku are: Governor Mu'azu Babangida Aliyu of Niger state, governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State, governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto state, governor Musa Kwankwaso of Kano state, and governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara state.

Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa and Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers state, who were barred from attending the convention, joined the other governors, Atiku, and Bukola Saraki in the new factional PDP.

After addressing an impromptu press conference explaining why they decided to form a new faction, officers were immediately elected. Abubakar Baraje was elected chairman, while former Osun State governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola was elected Secretary.

So now there's a GEJ PDP and an Atiku PDP. Lol. Our leaders are comedians...

8-Year-Old Boy Accidentally Kills 6-Year-Old Sister After Driving Mums Car

An 8-year-old Phoenix boy and his 6-year-old sister decided to go on a joyride with their mother's car, which ended in an accident that killed the little girl.

Both kids, still in their pajamas snuck out of bed, stole the keys to their mother's car and zoomed off but after about five miles, the little boy who appeared to how to drive, veered off and hit a roadside pole.

The boy escaped with minor ankle injuries, but the girl, who police said didn't appear to be wearing a seat belt, suffered massive injuries and died Thursday morning at a Phoenix hospital.

One man who followed the car for about 15 minutes, Phoenix resident Ruby De La Cruz, "right before the crash, the boy "looked like he had freaked out because the cops had already turned on their lights to pull them over.

"He went real quick to the right, but he hit the curb and swerved into the pole," he said.

According to reports, their mother woke up about 10 p.m. to discover that the children were missing, along with her Hyundai Elantra. She then called 911, believing they had been kidnapped.

It is now obvious that the state of health of the ailing governor of Taraba state is not good enough to cope with the political drama his wife and others around him are trying to subject the man to.

AshmarkOlakunleBlog learnt that since on Wednesday when Suntai was forced to read a speech for few seconds to "prove" that he is fit to take over as governor, the man has not gotten himself. His poor health is said to have deteriorated so much so that he could not be managed at home again.

A 19 year old female student of Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) Department of Osun State Polytechnic (OSPOLY) has been arrested for allegedly pouring hot water on her boyfriend shortly after his birthday at Miracle Hall, BHS area in Iree last Saturday.

Confusion In Taraba As Suntai's Deputy Rejects Cabinet Sack

TARABA State slipped further into confusion yesterday, with Deputy Governor Garba Umar urging the people to disregard Governor Danbaba Suntai’s “dissolution” of the Executive Council. Also yesterday, 16 members of the House of Assembly said Suntai was unfit and required medical attention. They urged him to go for treatment and allow his deputy, who acted in his stead for the 10-month period he was away, to continue in the capacity. Taraba State has been crisis-ridden since Sunday when Suntai arrived from the United States where he had the second leg of his treatment for injuries sustained in a crash in Yola, Adamawa State of an air plane he flew on October 25, last year. Umar’s Press Secretary, Mr. Kefas Sule, said in a statement in Jalingo yesterday that “the announcement (of the dissolution of the executive council) is a mere attempt by a cabal to hijack the machinery of governance. Senior Special Assistant to Suntai Mr Sylvanus Giwa announced the dissolution of the executive and the appointment of Secretary to Government and Chief of Staff. “It is not a directive that was given by the Executive Governor, His Excellency, Governor Danbaba Suntai,” said Sule. “To this end, bankers are to note that all financial instruments relating to the State Government’s accounts should be honoured only if they are in tandem with the provisions of the law.

Customs Officer Killed At Seme Border

There was mayhem at the Seme border area of Lagos State on Thursday after a 35-year-old man, Saturday Joel, was shot by officials of the Nigerian Customs Service.

Eyewitnesses said Joel was hit by a stray bullet while some customs officers were trying to apprehend a motorist who was smuggling a red Volkswagen bus from Benin Republic into Nigeria.

It was learnt that after the shooting, some residents took to the streets in protest. The residents were said to have alleged that customs officials had killed at least three motorists this month under the pretext that they were smugglers.

It was learnt that in the ensuing pandemonium, the customs officials stationed in the area fled. However, a Superintendent of Customs, identified as J. I Motojelu, was said to have been driving by at the time.

Kris Jenner has been told by FOX executives that her six-week trial run at being a talk show host will be just that - it’s not coming back for a second run.

Kim K's mother was recently told, “There is no chance the talk show is going to get a green light from FOX. The ratings were averaging an abysmal 0.8 and advertisers were less than enthusiastic about it.”

“Kris did get a ratings bump for her last show when Kanye West revealed the first baby pic of daughter, North West, with Kim, but that was a one time shot in the arm and it wouldn’t be indicative of what the ratings trend would be,” the source close to the production told RadarOnline.com.

“It’s a very crowded market and Kris didn’t do anything to set herself apart from the field. Believe it or not, most of America doesn’t want to hear about the Kardashian’s for an hour everyday,” the source revealed.

Aviation industry regulator, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has started probing the ArikAir pilots and officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria over alleged security breaches that led to the arrest of a 15-year-old stowaway, Daniel Oikhena, at Lagos Airport on Saturday.

This is even as the boy on Wednesday landed a scholarship to study free to university level and fulfil his dream of flying to the United States of America.

The pilot, The PUNCH learnt, might lose his licence or be fined huge sum of money if ongoing investigation by the regulators found him guilty of not aborting the  flight for safety checks, following the alleged passenger’s report of presence of a strange boy some metres from the plane.

Already, the regulatory authority has commenced full investigation into the matter, the Director-General, NCAA, Captain Fola Akinkuotu, disclosed to our correspondent on Wednesday.

Inspector General of Police MD Abubakar Set to Remarry In September

According to a report by Sahara Reporters, Nigeria's Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar is getting ready to re-marry a year and a half after loosing his wife, Maryam Abubakar, to cancer. (Mrs Abubakar died in January 2012)

IG Abubakar will be engaging in a three-day wedding ritual to 35 year old Safiya (pictured above with him). Their wedding proper will take place on Saturday September 14th.
