Another Attempted Stowaway Incident Occurred In Lagos

Barely one month after the Nigeria Police Airport Command paraded three teenagers for attempted stowaway at the Murtala Mohammed Airport (MMA) Lagos, the airport yesterday recorded another stowaway attempt.

The attempted stowaway, a teenager, was apprehended at the airside of the airport where he planned to stowaway on an Allied Air Cargo aircraft that was preparing to embark on a flight out of the airport.

The incident occurred in the early hours of yesterday.

The teenager, whose name could not be ascertained as at the time of filing this report was spotted by the airside staff of the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCo) who was handling the aircraft.

Our correspondent gathered that immediately he was arrested, he was handed over to the Aviation Security (AVSEC) of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

The boy, it was further gathered was taken out of the airside by AVSEC officials, but as at the time of filing this report, it was not clear where the boy was taken to.

However, when our correspondent contacted the spokesman of FAAN, Mr. Yakubu Dati, on the issue, he declined comment while a text message sent to his cell phone was equally not replied.

It will be recalled that the airport command of the Nigeria Police had last month arrested three teenagers for allegedly attempting to illegally board some international flights in Lagos.

The command Police Commissioner, Salahu Waheed, said the suspects, Lateef Popoola, 13; Amadi Joshua, 14 and Ukpabio Onyedikachi, 14; were arrested at different times at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja.

Waheed, while handing over the suspects to their parents, had said that there was the need for their respective state governments to rehabilitate them like the Edo State government did with the first teenage stowaway, Daniel Ihekina, who was arrested on August 24, 2013 after sneaking into the tyre compartment of a Lagos-bound Arik plane.
