The Lagos government has gone hard on the state Traffic Management
Authority (LASTMA) relieving 157 officers of their duty over alleged
gross misconduct.
The officers were reportedly dismissed due to various offenses
committed ranging from bribery, certificate forgery, and dereliction of
duty.
The government made this decision public in a government newsletter obtained on Monday in Ikeja.
It said its action followed due process as all the officers affected
were given an opportunity to defend themselves and prove their innocence
before a disciplinary committee.
About 250 officers of the traffic agency were dismissed in a similar manner last year in a bid to sanitize the authority.
The state Commissioner for Transportation, Kayode Opeifa, had said on
Friday that the government would not spare efforts to remove bad eggs
in the organisation.
