This UK people they enjoy o..10years without light going off..Nigeria will get their..Cough, seriously we will get their. AshmarkOlakunle Culled the News from DailyMail.
A decade ago this week the Northeast
blackout plunged 60 million into darkness - but the human spirit of those
affected never shone brighter.
Just after 4.10 p.m. on August 14th,
2003, 80 percent of the northeast of the nation and parts of Canada lost power
over the course of only six seconds.
But instead of panic, with memories of
9/11 still vivid, most remember fondly the day the lights went out, as everyday
people calmly helped police direct traffic, motorists turned their radios up so
those stranded could find out what was going on and bars and restaurants hosted
'blackout parties'.
Newark, JFK and LaGuardia airports shut
down, New York Penn Station and Grand Central Terminal ceased to operate,
thousands of people were trapped in the subway and hundreds more in elevators
in skyscrapers across New York City, Toronto and Buffalo.
With no traffic lights across the city,
gridlock descended as workers fled their offices to be struck by steaming,
humid air temperatures of 92 Fahrenheit.
Tens of thousands of New Yorkers
streamed across the Brooklyn, Williamsburg and Manhattan bridges to get home
while other commuters were left stranded and slept in public parks and on the
steps of public buildings.
Despite the blackout, bars and
restaurants reported an increase in trade as those affected to the opportunity
to enjoy the predicament they all found themselves in.
Restaurants handed out their perishable
food for free and a general party atmosphere took over those affected by the
blackout.
But now now ten years on, many still
worry that another blackout could happen at any moment, despite investment in
the power grid since 2003.
