MTN Nigeria says threats of attacks on telecommunication installations
by terrorist group Boko Haram still present a serious danger to its
operations. Public Relations and Protocol Manager Funso Aina said MTN
was still taking stock of the total cost of Boko Haram’s destruction of
its base stations, CAJ News reported. About 500 MTN base stations in
Nigeria were taken off the network in 2012 after being targeted by the
militia. Aina said the government at all levels and security agencies
are trying their best to prevent further attacks. Boko Haram attacked
MTN, Airtel, Globacom, Etisalat and Nitel facilities last year for
allegedly supporting the government of President Goodluck Jonathan.
